Internet Poker

Playing internet poker can be different than playing face to face. I have played more internet poker than I have of the face to face. However, I have played enough to know that they are very different and yet somewhat the same.
Let’s start with the similarities:
- Of course to state the obvious, the rules are the same.
- They both have free play or cash play.
- Both of them can take a long time to finish.
- Finally, they both require some luck.
Now, let’s move on to the differences. The internet differs in the following ways:
- It can be done without clothes or in a bath robe and no one gets offended if that’s your mood.
- One can bluff easier because the opponents can’t see your face.
- One can play multiple games at once.
- One can take the game to the restroom if they wanted to continue play and no one knows.
- It gives you an option ahead of time to select what you want to do with your cards.
- One can select the position they want to sit in.
- Opponents can’t see when you are on tilt. (unless you type a nasty message to them, lol)
- Doesn’t really require a lot of skill.
These are just a few that I can think of at the moment. I can remember when I first started playing. I played free money on the internet and I used to get so frustrated because it seems that all the players were playing what I would call "Lotto Poker". This is where the opponents would just go all in and take a chance on winning. If they lost... it was really no big deal because they could reload their chips and do it again. My frustration built up so much that I ended up doing the same type of play. I ended up calling a lot (more out of frustration), just to have the idiots suck out and win. Of course, this didn’t help me to improve my own game. So, I decided to try another strategy. I would just wait out the idiots until I could get a cheap flop with a premium start hand. If I hit on the flop... that’s when I would take those idiots down. I would simply just act weak. This in turn would make them go all in again with any two cards that they held. At this point, I would rake in their chips! I realized that the more patience I had with them, the better my chances were with winning all their chips.

Playing opposite the table seems to be easier online: When the table is tight, play lose. When the table is lose, play tight.
I've found its easier to tilt online also. Something about holding those chips in your hand is calming where staring at a number on the screen, that just got alot smaller, is not. I've taken to holding chips in my hand at home now as a means to offset that.

MrEcru... I would also have to agree with that. Thanks for pointing that out! Although it is easier to tilt online it can also be concealed which can be an advantage or disadvantage. Depending on how you play.
