Main Event Bad Beat

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

I could hardly believe it when I saw this bad beat. Montgomery first started off with a significant chip lead. He raised with A-9 of diamonds. Going against Demidov who in turn re-raised with pocket K's (the right thing to do). Perhaps Montgomery decided that he is going to push Demidov off his hand by going over the top and calling all-in. Naturally, Demidov calls with his K's and is now all in. Of course, Demidov wins that hand and doubles up (as he should).

Here's where the bad beat comes. The very next hand, Montgomery has yet another A but with an even smaller kicker suited again (A-3 of diamonds). Since he is now fairly short stacked he calls all-in. Eastgate with pocket 6's decides to call. Now, since Eastgate has a pocket pair of 6's you think he has alot of outs. Not really. Phillips had folded one of those outs, a 6. So out comes this flop...

A clubs, 4 diamonds, Q spades

This is looking very good for Montgomery to make his come back. Next we have the turn to come. What do you think comes out?

A spades

Wow, Montgomery can't believe what he just made! He ended up with trip A's. That is awesome! He is on his way to a comeback. Eastgate now only has one out... the 6 of diamonds. So, what should the river turn up?

6 diamonds
You guessed it!

Does that suck or what? Well, he still made over 3 million. What is one to do? That's poker!!
