Who is the FISH?

Thursday, April 9, 2009

How do you know who the fish is at the poker table is? First of, for those of you that may not know what a FISH is... it is basically someone who is new to the game (novice player) that is still learning the ropes and still working on the skills of the game. Lately if you have been playing against me, you might say it was me, lol. I have been sucking badly! I have been playing mostly heads up games tonight. I was making stupid calls, bad pushes, and bad beats all night. So how do you spot these so called FISH? Here are just a few Texas Holdem Tips for spotting the FISH that I have heard about...

1. If you see a player and they are having a hard time putting their chips into the pot in a smooth manner... You might be a FISH!

2. If you just simply place your chips into the pot as opposed to tossing them... You might be a FISH!

3. If you look at your cards as they are being dealt instead of when it is your turn to bet... You might be a FISH!

4. If you appear that you are way to excited to be there... You might be a FISH!

5. If you appear to eager to talk to the professional players... You might be a FISH!

6. AND Finally, If you can't seem to notice/find who the Fish might be at your table...YOU ARE THE FISH!

There you have it. Just a few simple things to look for when looking for the FISH at your table. Let's hope that it is not you. Happy Fishing, LOL!

JustObserving added: You might be a FISH... If you have to ask what the blind is again.

Thanks for the kind comment. That's a good way of knowing as well. I think I will add that to the list...

    Fish - Good

    Shark - Bad

Always swim with the fishes... even when you are a shark!!!

    Nice one!

Sometimes, I give the impression of being a fish when I sit down to a table. People are less likely to target you with aggressive reraises since fish tend to be calling stations any ways.

    Nice post!

Many of us play poker online rather than in a live environment and as a result can become lackadaisical when it comes to proper poker etiquette.

While the general rules of poker are the same regardless of where you play it, there are some obvious differences between live and online play.

I certainly agree with you that playing online is completely different than live play. Perhaps that should be my next post?
